Innovate Or Die

With a brief stint in tech, I believe in the idea of innovate or die. Thus, we’re innovating yet again.

The people have spoken, the current setup for Activist Strategy and some of the features could be better. We’ve been working those fixes out over the last couple weeks.

First, it’d help if you knew what our super premium idea generation service Activist Strategy was, so you can read about it here.

The major changes

  1. The premium lite daily newsletter [the non-Activist Strategy version, but the version from The Goodie Room] is being combined with the catalyst worksheet. We are moving to updating the catalyst worksheet daily, given the demand for more ideas. Here’s a look at a couple things that are on the current catalyst watchlist.

  2. For Activist Strategy, we previously we sent out exclusive content such as ad-hocs, features and deep dives at random times as we worked them up. Getting emails at random times proved confusing and non-advantageous for those that weren't interested in certain content. With that, there will be a new Activist Strategy daily newsletter that has an “exclusive” section with links to all the new work we’ve done. More below on the new Activist Strategy daily.

  3. We’re rounding out our catalog of past work. We’re adding prior work on other activist targets that wasn’t previously part of the catalog. As well, we’re making things more fluid when it comes to accessing the exclusive content. The revamped catalog will be available next week. Here’s a look at the Activist Strategy catalog.

  4. Activist Strategy weekend email change. We will start including what we’ve bought and sold as part of the weekend email (only available via Activist Strategy). This also includes the major 13Ds filed over the past week and will be the key part of the 13D tracker (when we roll it out).

So there will still be two forms of the premium daily newsletters. A robust one for Activist Strategy and then the lite-premium one in The Goodie Room. Here is how each will look:

Format for the new Activist Strategy daily email:

  • News - top activist and event driven news, including new campaigns and activist ownership changes.

  • Exclusive - work we put out exclusive to Activist Strategy subs, includes deep dives into activist owned stocks, ad-hoc analyses, identifying activist targets and idea generation ideas. You can read up about the exclusives we put out here.

  • Catalyst watchlist news and updates - news on catalyst watchlist stocks, as well as new additions to the list.

  • Web stories - articles from around the web that you should know about, includes a summary with our key takeaway.

  • Other stories - notable other articles with a read, presented without any of our commentary.

  • Our free work - most important new blog posts from us on our free blog.

Format set up for lite-premium daily email (available in The Goodie Room):

  • News - top activist and event driven news, including new campaigns and activist ownership changes.

  • Catalyst watchlist news and updates - news on catalyst watchlist stocks, as well as new additions to the list.

  • Web stories - articles from around the web that you should know about, includes a summary with our key takeaway.

  • Other stories - notable other articles with a read, presented without any of our commentary.

  • Our free work - most important new blog posts from us on our free blog.

Tentatively launching the performance database

Right now we’re at just over 10 activist funds. See a sample here, featuring Jeff Ubben’s ValueAct Capital. We’ll be adding a few funds a day until we hit at least 50.  

Get in early for $600 a year. Sign ups are in The Goodie Room. The cost when we hit 25 funds in a week or so will go to $1,400 a year. When we hit 50 funds the price goes to $2,000 a year. Or this is included as part of Activist Strategy. The pricing is for firms with less than 25 employees and less than $100M AUM. If you’re larger than that, we need to talk - email us.

The new Goodie Room looks something like this:

  • Daily newsletter combined with the Catalyst Watchlist. Pricing set to increase 50% after the weekend, but for now it’s set to $259 a month for firms < 25 employees and < $100M AUM and $899 a month for firms > 25 employees or > $100M AUM.

  • Activist performance database early access at $600 a year.

Plus, with the catalyst watchlist demanding a daily update and a renewed focus on building up an activist investor performance database, the price of Activist Strategy is going up on Monday. The current pricing on the Activist Strategy page will increase by roughly 10% after the weekend.
